In a rider passed in the last state budget, the legislature upped the ante for minor parties in New York. So, two of those minor parties, the Greens and the Libertarians, are suing.
In the past, to achieve ballot status, minor parties needed to earn 50,000 votes for their gubernatorial candidates.

Green Party and Libertarian Party file joint lawsuit fighting ballot access restrictions

ALBANY, NY, July 27, 2024 – The Green Party of New York (GPNY) and the Libertarian Party of New York(LPNY) filed a Federal lawsuit today in the Southern District of New York to invalidate restrictive ballot access provisions passed as a rider to the FY2021 State Budget.
Since 1936, minor political parties in New York have been required to obtain 50,000 votes for their gubernatorial candidate every four years in order to achieve and maintain ballot status.
As part of the June 2024 edition of the Wikinews feature on the 2024 presidential election published yesterday, I conducted three short interviews with three vice presidential candidates. Those candidates were Prohibition Party of Georgia chairman Billy Joe Parker of the Prohibition Party, historian Darcy Richardson of the Reform, Natural Law, Alliance, and American Delta parties, and educator Tiara Lusk of the Life and Liberty Party.… Read more ...

In a livestreamed Washington Convention to gain ballot access Independent Presidential Candidate Mark Charles has formally nominated former Green Party Candidate Sedinam Curry to be his running mate.
Curry’s decision comes after many candidates, including now Independent Dario Hunter, have voiced criticisms over the Green Party’s Presidential Primary
